Region Free Firmware LF-D310 (Matshita/Panasonic/Vivastar) DVD-RAM

People have been trying to find a firmware update or other means (aka "region hack") of making the Matshita LF-D310 region free. About the only hope I've found is this Usenet post which claims the solution is (with no disc in the drive) to press nextpreviousnextprevious and then use the arrow key to select the region. I could find no confirmation that this is remotely close to correct.

There is a product called "DVD Region+CSS Free" (formerly known as "DVD Region Free") does not work with DVD-RAM drives.

Of possible interest is the fact that DVDINFO claims the drive is RPC-2, which eliminates some kinds of region-free hacks from eligibility.

To summarize, sadly, my best guess is that there is really no region-free solution for the Matshita LF-D310 DVD-RAM. If you find some patched firmware that does make the device region free, please let me know!
