Backup Critic Storage/Media Deals PageVivaStar RS-111This is a 2002 Vivastar DVD-R burner, where the RS-111 is an internal ATAPI IDE drive, and the RS-121 is an external drive (FireWire). It can also read and write DVD-RAM media, This drive was probably a Matshita LF-D310 under the covers. It may have been the drive inside the Panasonic Firewire LF-D340, and may also have been the same drive as the SAMSUNG DVD-RAM MR-A02B. PC Magazine published a VivaStar RS-111 review back on 5/21/2002. The reviewers were unable to achieve the published burning speeds for either DVD-RAM or DVD-R. They were relatively happy with its DVD-RAM support, and less enthusiastic about the bundled software, which included only a trial version of software to play DVD videos. The RS-111 also showed up in this DVD burner roundup over at pcworld.about.com. The drive did avoid being the slowest burner in the bunch, but only one other drive was slower.
