Conference Message: Disk-to-Disk Backup
In a
Network World report by Deni Connor,
the news was all about the increasing switch from
tape backups to disk-to-disk solutions.
Of particular note
is trend towards being unable to wait the length of time
required for a tape-based restoration operation.
The opening line of the report says it all:
"The problem isn't really about backing up data,
it has more to do with recovering it."
More fun points:
- Enterprise Storage Group claims over half their customers
plan to backup to disk Real Soon Now.
- One analyst cites space concerns as factoring into the
decision to switch from tape to disk backups, claiming
the disk backups will
"use three times less space".
