Backup Critic Storage/Media Deals PageLightscribe Price Finally MentionedA good little article at cdfreaks.com says that HP has finally dropped the other shoe on pricing for LightScribe technology. The news is that buying a LightScribe burner is supposed to cost you about $10 extra than a normal CD/DVD burner, while LightScribe media is supposed to be about ten cents more per disc. Alas, the lengthy delay in actually getting LightScribe to market makes these modest price penalties relatively higher than they used to be. For example, it's now not unusual to be able to purchase a relatively fast and flexible DVD burner for about $40, making the LightScribe markup nearly 25%. Likewise, one can purchase Verbatim DVD+R discs for about 25 cents by buying in lots of a hundred and playing the rebate game. That makes the LightScribe markup for media nearly 40%! Hopefully, these markups will decrease faster than the cost for normal drives and media. See Also
