Backup Critic Storage/Media Deals PageData Disaster Scale Frightens ChildrenWell-timed for Halloween, Ontrack Data Recovery has unleashed their "Data Disaster Scale" to let system administrators hiding under their bedcovers assign a numeric value to all the scary goblins out to destroy their data. From the Frankenstein of file or email deletion, to the Godzilla of "server destroyed and backup fails", the scale covers it all, possibly enabling future bragging rights such as "Yeah, well we had an 8.5 just last week!" OK, it's not really news, and the suggested remedies culminate rather predictably in "Hey, why not call us to fix your problem?" But it's still a cute press release, and constantly reminding people that their data is going to disappear someday is regrettably a required chore in the backup and data recovery business. See Also
