NEC Announces ND-3500A DVD Burner

NEC has announced the ND-3500A, a $100 double-layer 16X DVD burner. The company claims a one-hour DVD can be burned "in less than four minutes". That's due to the 16X DVD re-write speed (for both DVD-R and DVD+R discs). It can also burn DVD+R dual-layer discs at 4X, a great relief for some.

The NEC ND-3500A burner is compatible with the usual formats: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW. Since the 3500A drive also supports the new dual-layer format, at least for DVD+R DL discs, that gives you a potential of 8.5GB on a single disc.

The NEC press release for the 3500A seems to imply that they will bundle Ulead Movie Factory 3.5 Suite Deluxe with the drive. Presumably, it will also sooner or later be available as an OEM drive, with nothing bundled whatsoever but at a cheaper price. The announced price is $99.99.
