Backup Critic Storage/Media Deals PageFairchild Tips for LightScribe Drive MakersHewlett-Packard's LightScribe is a new technology for labelling optical discs, burning labels onto the non-data side using the same laser used to read/write data. LightScribe requires a special optical LightScribe drive, specially coated media, and special software to control the burning process. Fairchild Semiconductor has now issued an application note aimed at optical disc drive makers who want to support the new LightScribe standard. The application note explains how to use Fairchild's chips to create a circuit to help gain the low-speed motor control that the LightScribe drive burning process requires. No word on whether any LightScribe drive makers are using this Fairchild design or not. See Also
