New Year's Resolution: Regular Backups

In his column in The Free Lance-Star, Chris Muldrow writes that one of his New Year's resolutions is to start performing monthly backups of his Windows machine. He is likely not alone, as resolving to get better about backing up data has to be right up there with quitting smoking and losing weight in the list of popular resolutions. However, you don't have to be a psychologist to predict that this is one of those New Year's resolutions that is going to fail.

Dr. Phil says that the solution to weight loss is programming, not willpower. The same is certainly true of Windows backups. Don't resolve to start backing up regularly -- that's the willpower route. Instead, resolve to set up a software solution that automatically does your backups for you -- preferably a lot more regularly than just once per month!
