Backup Critic Storage/Media Deals PageColor LightScribe Arrives. Well, Almost.Plagued by slowness, expense, unavailability, and limited color options, LightScribe is ready to take a first stab at the latter problem. HP announced "LightScribe Media Version 1.2", a new form of LightScribe media that offers new background colors besides the original LightScribe gold color disc. The new CDs (no news for color DVDs) are expected to ship in 2006. They will offer the following background colors: red, orange, yellow, blue and green. Apparently a driver update may be required before existing LightScribe software can burn the new Media Version 1.2 discs. While this is a far cry from what users really want -- rich, full-color RGB LightScribe labels as colorful as printed disc labels -- it does breathe a little excitement into the moribund LightScribe brand, which has been continually over-promised and under-delivered.
