Backup Critic Storage/Media Deals PageHP Unveils dvd740 DVD Writer Series (dvd740i/dvd740e)Hewlett-Packard has announced the dvd740 DVD Writer Series, new DVD burners for the PC. The dvd740i is an internal drive and the dvd740e is an external USB 2.0 drive. Both the new drives support LightScribe, HP's labelling technology that lets you flip the disc over and burn a label on the opposite side using the same (LightScribe) drive. Both the new drives are dual-layer drives, supporting most all optical disc formats (CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD±R, DVD±RW, DVD+R DL) except for DVD-RAM. The new dual-layer format lets you put up to 8.5GB on a single recordable disc, especially important when trying to fit movies onto a single disc. The lack of support for DVD-RAM is a little surprising, given HP's earlier announcement of support for DVD-RAM in exchange for Panasonic's support for DVD+R. Maybe they just haven't quite got that support up and running yet. See Also
