Backup Critic Storage/Media Deals PageHP Announces CD/DVD Tattoo Printable Labels for Optical DiscsIn the battle to put beautiful labels on recordable CD and DVD discs, Hewlett-Packard has been a major player as both the inventor and main proponent of LightScribe technology. Now they have announced a new product entry in the crowded printable label market for CD and DVD discs. HP CD/DVD Tattoo is HP's new product for letting you use your inkjet printer to create labels for CD or DVD discs. HP unabashedly claims the CD/DVD Tattoo is "the world's glossiest label". The 5" x 7" sheets will come in packages of 15, with an estimated street price of $9.99 per package. The package includes an applicator. Other claimed benefits for the new labels include water/smudge/fade resistance, and an "anti-curl" technology to keep the labels from wrinkling/curling, or warping the disc. Of course, one of the worst risks of any stick-on label technology is the chance that the label will come off when spun up to the incredibly high speeds used by modern CD/DVD drives. HP claims their thin, plastic CD/DVD Tattoos will provide a "glossy, water-resistant finish that will not delaminate". We will have to wait and see how true that is, since the product is not expected to ship until June 1, 2006. See AlsoFeatured Article: Why undelete utilities may fail just when you need them most! |
