Announcing the DVD940i: 18x DVD Burner by Lite-On!

The new Hewlett-Packard DVD burner (the dvd940i) is coming -- but it won't be made by HP. Lite-On has been tapped to supply the new drive.

Providing a welcome break from HP news about corporate spying and backstabbing, the dvd940i is expected to provide 18x DVD burning speeds. Also included will be the now-standard plethora of, well, standards: DVD±RW, DVD±R, dual-layer DVD, DVD-RAM, and the usual CD formats.

This drive also supports LightScribe, pretty much required for any DVD drive that Hewlett-Packard is going to endorse.

No price has been revealed, but the drive is expected in November.
